A psalmist penned the words: "She gave me life when it started, always near and never parted. She was there when I cried and wiped the tears from my weeping eyes. She understood my baby talk, she was there when I started to walk, and I thank God, I thank God for Mama."

It is with heartfelt sympathy that S. Jones Funerals and Cremations embraces the Alston Family as they prepare to celebrate the beautiful life of their beloved mother while giving thanks to God for the 87 blessed years He allowed them to share with her. Mrs. Claretta Whitaker Alston, formerly of Enfield, North Carolina, exchanged labor for reward on July 29, 2026, while residing in Washington, DC.

Family and friends will gather from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 8, 2026, during a visitation to be held in the chapel of S. Jones Funerals and Cremations. During this time, expressions of love, support, and condolences may be shared with the Alston Family. Immediately following the visitation, a Celebration of Life service will be called to order at 11:00 a.m.

Following the services, Mrs. Alston's earthly remains will be lovingly laid to rest in White Oak Cemetery.
